What, Me?

Verses from the Repentance from Witchcraft Bible Study

Ezekiel 13:6 (NIV) Their visions are false and their divinations a lie. They say, "The Lord declares," when the Lord has not sent them; yet they expect their words to be fulfilled.

Lamentations 3:37 (NIV) Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it?

Jeremiah 23:25-26,29-30,36-38 (NIV) "I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, 'I had a dream! I had a dream!' How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds?... Is not my word like fire," declares the Lord, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces? Therefore," declares the Lord, "I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me... But you must not mention 'the oracle of the Lord' again, because every man's own word becomes his oracle and so you distort the words of the living God, the Lord Almighty, our God... Although you claim, 'This is the oracle of the Lord,' this is what the Lord says: You used the words, 'This is the oracle of the Lord,' even though I told you that you must not claim, 'This is the oracle of the Lord.'"

Isaiah 28:7-11,13-17,22 (NIV) "And these also stagger from wine and reel from beer: Priests and prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine; they reel from beer, they stagger when seeing visions, they stumble when rendering decisions. All the tables are covered with vomit and there is not a spot without filth. Who is it he is trying to teach? To whom is he explaining his message? To children weaned from their milk, to those just taken from the breast? For it is: [sav lasav, sav lasav; kav lakav, kav lakav (gibberish or mockery of the prophet)] 'do and do, do and do, rule on rule, rule on rule; a little here, a little there.' Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues God will speak to this people... so that they will go and fall backwards, be injured and snared and captured. Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers... You boast, "...When an overwhelming scourge sweeps by, it cannot touch us, for we have made a lie our refuge and falsehood our hiding-place." So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: "...I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb-line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding-place... Now stop your mocking, or your chains will become heavier..."

Matthew 6:7 (NIV) "And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words."

Ecclesiastes 5:7 (NIV) Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God.

1 Timothy 4:1-5 (NIV) The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

Matthew 15:8-17 (NIV) "'These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'" Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen and understand. What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean', but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean'." Then the disciples came to him and asked, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?" He replied, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit." Peter said, "Explain the parable to us." "Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them. "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body?"

Have you heard the joke about the guy who wants to hear from God and decides to Scripture flip? He closes his eyes, and while fanning his Bible he sticks his finger in, and it lands right on the verse: "Judas hung himself." Thinking this must be a mistake, he tries it again and finds the words: "Go, and do ye likewise." Alarmed at this, he tries one last time and lands on the text: "What ye do, do quickly." <smiles>

2 Timothy 2:15 (Wey) Earnestly seek to commend yourself to God as a servant who, because of his straightforward dealing with the word of truth, has no reason to feel any shame.

Micah 3:6 (NIV) "Therefore night will come over you, without visions, and darkness, without divination. The sun will set for the prophets, and the day will go dark for them. The seers will be ashamed and the diviners disgraced. They will all cover their faces because there is no answer from God."

James 3:13,15 (NIV) Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom... Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.

Isaiah 47:13-15 (NIV) All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here are no coals to warm anyone; here is no fire to sit by. That is all they can do for you--these you have laboured with and trafficked with since childhood. Each of them goes on in his error; there is not one that can save you.

2 Timothy 4:2-4 (Wey) Proclaim God's message, be zealous in season and out of season; convince, rebuke, encourage, with the utmost patience as a teacher. For a time is coming when they will not tolerate wholesome instruction, but, wanting to have their ears tickled, they will find a multitude of teachers to satisfy their own fancies; and will turn away from listening to the truth and will turn aside to fables.

Acts 13:10-11 (NIV) "You [Elymas the sorcerer] are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind, and for a time you will be unable to see the light of the sun." Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
